As in previous years we will be appearing at the Rothwell May Day celebrations on the Pastures in Rothwell on Monday 4th May. Come along from 11:00 am onwards and practice CPR - you never know when you may need it! We always welcome new members to the scheme, if you are interested in joining come along and find out more or get in touch via the contact us section of this website.
After a busy January the number of calls coming in for Rothwell has dramatically dropped off. That said we still need more volunteers from the Rothwell area to join our scheme so that we can provide cover for more hours each week. Please get in touch if you are interested in joining us.
The Christmas and New Year period was very busy for Yorkshire Ambulance Service though this didn't cascade down to us as we only deal with certain types of calls. Although we were busier than normal we could have handled more. There are a lot of chest infections around at the moment.
More new members are imminent so hopefully we will be able to provide even more effective cover to the people of Rothwell in 2015. Thanks to the generosity of Rothwell Lions we now have a second kit operational in Rothwell allowing us to provide more effective cover for the local population. The new kit has already been in use in life-saving situations. We also welcome two new members to the Rothwell scheme and look forward to more people coming forward to train up and join the scheme. Rothwell Scheme was delighted to receive 'Scheme of the Year 2014 for the Airedale, Bradford and Leeds Region' at the excellent Awards Evening on Friday 9th May 2014. If you are reading this and would like to join an award-winning team, then why not contact us via our contacts page, or go to the Yorkshire Ambulance Service website http://www.communityresponders.yas.nhs.uk/ and find out more. Once again this year we had a stall at the annual Rothwell May Day celebrations and provided CPR demonstrations to a large number of people who one day might remember what they learned and potentially save a life. We also attracted a number of potential new scheme members who will be needed for the arrival of our second kit, kindly provided by Rothwell Lions http://www.rothwell-lions.org.uk/ The weather was kind to us and a good time was had by all. On a scorching hot day, with temperatures approaching 30 degrees we gave demonstrations and hands-on CPR practice to dozens of youngsters and a few older folk too. Another successful day with two or three people expressing an interest in joining the scheme. We also raised lots of awareness and interest in who we are and what we do. Several people offered us small donations, but we don't really have a mechanism for accepting them. Several other people came to us for first-aid but we had to redirect them to the St John's people as that isn't really our remit!!
We are having a stall at the Rothwell Carnival on July 13th. Come along and see what we do and have a go at CPR - you never know when it might come in handy! Thanks to Rothwell Lions for their support in staging our part of the event.
Come along and see us at the Rothwell May Day Celebrations on Monday 6th of May.
